{I N S I D E L O O K} How a Pinterest Board Becomes a Wedding

As we all know, the internet has become an amazing wealth of inspirational ideas for wedding, parties and events. I have seen brides obsess over sites like Pinterest--combing through images for hours--trying to find the exact picture to help them articulate their vision for their Big Day.

I have even experienced brides getting so caught up in pinning hundreds of links that they have too many ideas for their wedding day and cohesiveness becomes an issue. These can lead to extreme style issues like a bride I had from this past summer who's inspiration was called "Rustic-Chic-with-a-little-French-Country-and-an-Industrial-Twist"! Errrrmmm... That is not quite a "style" as much as a mashup of too many ideas!

So this begs the question, “How do I turn my perfect Pinterest board of ideas into an actual wedding?"

I have devised a three question system to help you make the most of your Pinterest Board:

Pinpoint, Personalize, Prioritize

Pinpoint: Ask yourself, "What is it about this pin or picture that I like?"

Personalize: Remember, "How can I tweak this to fit within my design scheme and my personality" to ensure you are keeping YOU in this design

and Priotitize: Always keep in mind, "How important is this detail to me for my wedding day?" if you are not able to include this particular pin or picture in your overall design scheme does is that a travesty or acceptable.

Allow me to examine this further using a series of images from a wedding I had this past summer (no, not not the infamous "Rustic-Chic-with-a-little-French-Country-and-an-Industrial-Twist" wedding!) The full Pinterest board has several examples of this client's tastes, however I have boiled them down to a single Inspiration Board here:

The ultimate goal, when looking at resources like Pinterest, is to gather ideas with the intention of putting a little personal spin on everything. One of my tried and true beliefs is that the more bride's and groom's personality you put into a wedding, the more your guests can connect to your design and get the "Wow!" Factor you are craving. This particular client LOVED Pinterest and in the beginning stages of planning found it hard to conceptualize how all of her pins would translate to the wedding day. So, we took each design element, one piece at a time, and spent a great deal of time referencing her board and then taking a step back to look at the bigger picture to make sure her personality and the overall wedding design meshed perfectly. By using Pinpoint, Personalize, and Prioritize, we achieved her perfect wedding day and her perfect Pinterest board.

The first hurdle we faced were the bridesmaid dresses. The Bride loved the look of mismatched dresses but didn't know if this would work with her color selections. By keeping a consistent length, a consistent fabric and a consistent color palette, we were able to achieve a beautiful look across the bridesmaids:

Of course, invitations were another detail that presented a challenge to the design of the wedding. By dissecting (or Pinpointing) what the bride loved about the picture of the invitation, we were able to recreate this and bring in her personal tastes, as well.

You also can use Pinterest to come up with creative signage for your wedding day that is both beautiful and funtional. This is how you can Personalize something as simple as signage to make it perfect for you and your family.

Details are incredible important and a lot of what ideas come from Pinterest are the small details such as signage, invitations and bridesmaids dresses. Just make sure to keep in mind your overall room esthetic! You need to make sure your Prioritize how important your details are to make sure you get the overall look you are hoping achieve.
