Are you struggling with how to tell your guests what to wear on your special day? What's the proper way to say 'attire'? Here are some tips on what to write on your invitations, and answer any questions that your guests may have.
If you'd like your female guests to wear a summer dress with bright colors, light fabric and sandals/heels, and the men to wear dress shorts with a short sleeve shirt (no tie) paired with sandals- you'll want to title that "Brunch Formal". If thats too formal and you want your female guests to wear a cotton dress, short or long, barefoot optional, and the men to wear simply shorts and a t-shirt, you'll call that "Brunch Casual".
Want a more summer-y feel? If you would like your female guests to wear a summer dress with a fun print, long or short paired with flip flops, and the men to wear a polo with pants and flip flops- we're going to call that "Resort Casual". This is appropriate for a beach ceremony, or backyard reception.
Let's get fancy now. Female guests wear a party dress made of chiffon, or silk with heels or wedges, and the men wear dress pants and a jacket (tie optional), then we call that "Festive Attire". This is a cool mix of fancy and comfortable.
Now moving on to "Garden Party". This wedding will most likely be outside, warm, and full of greenery. Your outfit, of course, has to fit that! Women would wear a shorter summer dress with strappy sandals and heels, while men wear a summer suit and boat shoes.
Fancier? Let's talk "Cocktail". Women will be wearing a party dress with elegant fabric (chiffon, silk) paired with heels, while men wear a business suit and dress shoes. This is your most common attire for weddings.
Lastly, we have "Black Tie". Women will be wearing a cocktail, or long evening gown paired with high heels, while men wear a tuxedo, black bow tie, and dressy shoes. This is the fanciest attire for guests to wear.
Communicating to your guests how you'd like them to dress is an extremely important part of your invitations and your wedding overall! It is crucial that your guests are wearing similar attire to fit the theme and occasion.
